Marie Curie ITNs are designed to provide young researchers with the opportunity to advance their research skills and career opportunities through working in a network of established research teams in both academia and industry.

Early Stage Researchers (ESRs) are researchers in the first four years of their training, they must not possess a doctoral degree; they are the equivalent of PhD students within the network.

Experienced Researchers (ERs) are researchers in possession of a doctoral degree or having completed at least four years of research since gaining a diploma giving them access to pursue a doctoral degree. If in possession of a doctoral degree, they must not have more than one full year of further research experience. An ER position is the equivalent of a researcher’s first post-doctoral fellowship within the network.

Both ESRs and ERs are required to fullfill the ‘mobility requirement’, i.e., move to a new country for their training within the ITN. For more details on the recruitment conditions please see point 1.3.4 in the FP7 THE 2013 PEOPLE PROGRAMME GUIDE FOR APPLICANTS
